Message from the Superintendent

Thirty years ago, I was sitting exactly where you are today. I had just earned a teaching degree and was looking for a good job and a new adventure.

I was living in South Dakota when I was recruited to join the Kern High School District teaching force in Bakersfield.
I jumped at the chance to move out to sunny California with my bride to begin my teaching career.

The students and the support I received from parents, staff and school administrators through my three decades here, have made this career both enjoyable and incredibly rewarding.

As my career progressed, I enjoyed that same support in my role as a Dean of students, Assistant Principal of Administration, Assistant Principal of Instruction and Principal. I have also served as Assistant Superintendent of Business and Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, until becoming the 21st Kern High School District Superintendent in 2014.

I encourage you to start your new adventure with us.

Bryon J Schaefer, Ed.D.
